Anna’s connection to nature continues to grow throughout the seasons of her life.
Since childhood Anna has cherished time spent in natural spaces surrounded by trees and native plants, nurturing her fascination for the usage and practice of all things flora.
Having discovered that she could formally study her passion, Anna enrolled in Herbal Medicine at Napier University. It was during a botany course that she fell in love with all things botanical. Her time spent there helped develop a deeper knowledge while she continuing to draw, paint and illustrate the plant and animal life investigated.
With this passion came an opportunity to work as a freelance artist, sketching commissioned botanical illustrations at Edinburgh Botanic Gardens, many of which have been published in scientific papers, including The Edinburgh Journal Of Botany.
For almost a decade life pulled Anna away from her craft, although this allowed her to explore alternative avenues and lifestyles. Nonetheless, following the end of a long-term relationship, Anna rekindled her love for painting, sketching, and illustrating with healthier balance and skill than ever before.
Continually drawing inspiration from the natural world around her, Anna is inclined to explore new techniques and mediums, such as oil paint, allowing for the production of both accurate illustrations, and poignant profiles.
From trading portraits of pets at twelve years old to working alongside botanical institutions, each of Anna's illustrations echo her personal values, reflecting her love and respect for the world around her. Her botanical illustrations capturing the beauty of nature down to the last detail.
“Without nature we are nothing.”
